Cuatro Pasos Mencía Rosado 2016
Under the law of Hong Kong, intoxicating liquor must not be sold or supplied to a minor in the course of business.
Bright raspberry red. Medium intensity with predominant red fruit aromas - raspberry, strawberry, cherry with violet hints. Pretty and powerful with a nice structure and depth of fruit. The good acidity is typical of the Mencía grape and provides a pleasant finish that is vivacious and crisp.
Martín Códax is very much riding the ‘New Wave’ of modern Spanish winemaking. As well as their work in pioneering the whites of Galicia, winemakers Luciano Amoedo and Katia Álvarez also make a lively and modestly priced Bierzo from the native Mencía variety. The Bierzo DO lies to the east of Rías Baixas and has a slightly warmer climate. The fruit for ‘Cuatro Pasos’ is sourced from low yielding, 80 year old Mencía vines, grown in the high areas of the region. The name ‘Cuatro Pasos’ (or ‘four steps’) refers to four ancient bear paw-prints that were found near the winery.
