Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Country: New Zealand
Vinification: Protective anaerobic techniques with minimal handling were used. Grapes were machine harvested from three different vineyards in the cool early hours of the morning to retain their fruit characters. The fruit was destemmed, crushed and gently pressed. The resultant juice was filtered before we fermented at low temperatures with neutral yeast. After fermentation the wines were filtered and blended prior to bottling to retain fruitiness and freshness.
Sweetness: 7.61 g/L
Hunter’s Riesling Medium Dry 2017
Pale lemon with green and gold tints, the nose shows citrus and floral fruit aromas and a hint of spice. Medium bodied and intense, the palate is fruity and medium dry, with mineral and lime flavours mingling with floral and spice notes. Long on the finish, it has a beautiful balance of fruit and acid.
Hunter's is the dream of Ernie and Jane Hunter - a fiercely independent, family-owned winery established in Marlborough over 30 years ago.
When Irishman Ernie Hunter arrived in New Zealand Marlborough had not even been considered as a potential wine growing region. The land was primarily used for farming: growing lucerne, barley and grazing sheep.
Only five years after producing his first six award-winning wines (the first six Hunter’s Wines to emerge) Ernie was tragically killed in a motor accident. Jane, herself a highly qualified viticulturist, took over the reigns immediately. Through her strong determination, she resolved to build on the vineyard's proven potential and success.
Jane is now an internationally respected vintner and recipient of the prestigious UK Women in Wine Award and has an OBE.
